Our Story

Foundation and Early Years (1970s)

FVAA was born from the decision to unify several local schools. In May 1971, representatives from five Fraser Valley churches agreed to consolidate their schools into one institution. The Aldergrove property was purchased and donated by Norman Bird, and it has been FVAA’s home ever since. Because the building was still under construction, the first classes (1971) were held in temporary facilities in Langley and a nearby church. The elementary division moved into the new building in 1972.

Academic Growth (1973–1976)

With strong support from community members, FVAA added Grade 11 in 1973 and Grade 12 in 1974, graduating its first class of 12 students in 1975. The secondary building, including a science lab, was completed in 1974, followed by the gymnasium and middle school wing in 1976.

Consolidation and Expansion (1980s–1990s)

During the 1980s, FVAA established itself as the only Adventist academy in the region offering education through Grade 12, strengthening both academic programs and student-teacher relationships. Continued growth led to the completion of a new high school wing in 1995, featuring a cafeteria, computer lab, music rooms, and improved workshop and bus facilities.

Spiritual Life, Athletics, and Service (2000s–2010s)

In the early 2000s, FVAA introduced a full chaplaincy program to support students’ spiritual development. The school also became actively involved in Canadian Adventist School Athletics (CASA), encouraging fellowship and healthy competition with schools across BC, Alberta, and Washington. In the 2010s, FVAA formally adopted its mission statement acronym Faith, Values, Academics, Achievements and launched a new identity in athletics—introducing Zion the lion as the mascot, uniforms, and the Royals sports teams.

Resilience and Renewal (2020s)

The 2020s brought global challenges such as wildfires and COVID-19, but FVAA responded by strengthening its focus on emotional and spiritual well-being. The school remains committed to preparing students as critical thinkers and community servants. Looking ahead, FVAA has short-term goals of upgrading facilities and uniting campus buildings. In 2022, FVAA celebrated its 50th anniversary with the special alumni magazine “50 Years Closer.”
